What is SproutFund? SproutFund is a (fictional) open banking platform that partners with fintech companies to serve customers worldwide. I designed a dashboard in Figma while interviewing with a (real) financial services company. They are seeking solutions to help visualize data-rich environments involving multiple APIs across their financial partners.
What was my process? I began by considering software platforms built to manage numerous API - MuleSoft by Salesforce is core product for this purpose. I researched and found a Figma design system for a MuleSoft dashboard, which I used as a starting point. From there, I redesigned the UI components—including icons, buttons, and color palette—to create a custom dashboard tailored for SproutFund.
How did I develop the visual identity? I created the name SproutFund - I wanted a two word name that sounds like a friendly fintech company. I chose green for a plant. I began with a generic icon from Adobe Assets, then produced the final vector icon in Adobe Illustrator. For the other colors in the dashboard (circle chart, endpoint icons, side bar graph), I chose colors based on their purpose and placement with the dashboard.
How did it go, and what's next? I enjoyed researching and learning more about APIs from this project. If I were to continue improving the dashboard, I'd improve the data visualization colors for context and clarity. I enjoyed working in the MuleSoft design system and customizing every UI component for SproutFund.
